FLUX 3 Max vs FLUX 3

FLUX 3 is Black Forest Labs' video model. FLUX 3 Max is the version fal Research post-trained from it, tuned for speed. This page puts the published figures side by side, says where each one is the better choice, and names every source. We sell FLUX 3 Max only.

The short version

Max is the quick one. fal's own benchmark has a 10-second 720p clip in 12.45 seconds on Max against 126.44 seconds on FLUX 3, about ten times faster, at the same price per second at 720p and 1080p on fal.

FLUX 3 does more. Black Forest Labs' documentation lists output up to 4K, a mode that continues an existing video, up to ten frames pinned to times, several shots in one generation and a fast draft preview, and fal prices FLUX 3 at 2K and 4K as well. Max, on fal, makes video from text, from a first and an optional last frame, and from keyframes at 720p, with 1080p as an upscale.

On quality the sources disagree in time. fal's launch page, using Artificial Analysis' preliminary image-to-video snapshot, shows Max 50 Elo points above FLUX 3. Artificial Analysis' current boards, which we read on 3 November, show the two close together: on image-to-video FLUX 3 is at 1071 and Max at 1065, ranges that overlap, and on text-to-video Max is at 1157 and FLUX 3 at 1143. So the clearest, best-supported difference is speed, not a big gap in picture quality.

When to choose which

  • Choose FLUX 3 Max to iterate

Ten clips in the time FLUX 3 makes one. It suits drafts, social clips and anything where you try several takes. It is what this site runs.

  • Choose FLUX 3 for 4K or for a long film

2K and 4K output, continuing a clip from its last frames, several shots in one generation and up to ten pinned keyframes are documented for FLUX 3, not for Max.

  • Cost per second is the same at 720p

On fal both are $0.17 a second at 720p and $0.29 at 1080p. FLUX 3 only costs more when you ask for 2K or 4K.

  • Quality is close on today's boards

Do not pick FLUX 3 Max for a quality jump you were promised at launch; Artificial Analysis' current scores put the two within a few Elo points on image-to-video.

FLUX 3 Max vs FLUX 3 questions

What is the difference between FLUX 3 Max and FLUX 3?

FLUX 3 is Black Forest Labs' video model. FLUX 3 Max is a version fal Research post-trained from it for speed and prompt following, with text, image and keyframes endpoints on fal. Max is much faster; FLUX 3 has the wider feature set.

Is FLUX 3 Max faster than FLUX 3?

On fal's own benchmark, yes: 12.45 seconds against 126.44 for a 10-second 720p clip, about ten times. Actual times vary with load; in our own 24 runs a 5-second Max clip took 10 to 34 seconds.

Is FLUX 3 Max better quality than FLUX 3?

Not clearly. fal's launch page showed Max 50 Elo higher on an early snapshot; Artificial Analysis' boards on 3 November have the two close, with overlapping intervals on image-to-video, and Max a little ahead on text-to-video, where the intervals overlap too.

Does FLUX 3 Max do 4K?

No. Max is 720p, with 1080p as an upscale. FLUX 3 is documented up to 4K, and fal lists 2K at $0.32 and 4K at $0.47 a second.

Can FLUX 3 Max continue a video?

Not in the endpoints we read. Black Forest Labs documents video continuation for FLUX 3. Max on fal takes text, a first and an optional last frame, or keyframes.

Which one does Flux3Max.io use?

FLUX 3 Max, through fal. We do not offer FLUX 3.

How much does each cost?

On fal both are $0.17 a second at 720p and $0.29 at 1080p, and Max has a 75 percent promotion until 7 November 2026. FLUX 3 adds 2K and 4K prices. Here, Max costs 36 credits a second at 720p and 62 at 1080p.

Is this an official comparison?

Flux3Max.io is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Black Forest Labs or fal; FLUX is a trademark of Black Forest Labs, and model names belong to their owners.
