A prompt that works for FLUX 3 Max, in four parts

Our prompts have the same shape: what is in the picture and how it looks, what moves, how the camera moves, and what it sounds like. One to three sentences is enough; the model expands the prompt itself.

For example: “A red fox trots through fresh powder snow between pine trees, its breath visible in the cold air, the camera tracks alongside at ground level. Snow crunching under its paws and a light wind in the branches.” The first sentence is the subject and the camera. The second is the sound, and it is the part people forget.

Four things we learned from the runs

Each is a clip we kept, with what it taught us.

Name a sound that is easy to hear

A sneaker on a turntable, with a beat

Our first run of this prompt was almost still and its audio track was silent even though Sound was on. The second run named a salient sound (the turntable motor, leather creaks and a minimal electronic beat) and asked for a low-to-high camera orbit with a rim light sweeping the leather. That is the clip we kept.

PromptA white leather sneaker spins smoothly on a glossy white studio turntable while the camera orbits it from a low angle up to a high angle, a bright rim light sweeping across the leather and stitching. The whirr of the turntable motor, soft leather creaks and a light minimal electronic beat.

List the motions

Rain, steam, a turned page and a passing umbrella

The first prompt for this café window picture barely moved. The one we kept lists four motions in order (rain racing down the glass, steam from the cup, the girl looking up and turning the page, an umbrella passing outside) and the sound of rain on glass with lo-fi piano.

PromptRaindrops race down the cafe window glass, steam swirls up from the tea cup, the girl looks up from her book, tucks her hair behind her ear and turns the page, an umbrella passes outside and the lamp light flickers. Rain on glass, lo-fi piano and the clink of a cup.

A long clip needs a path

The camera flies to a crystal tower

Fifteen seconds is long. This prompt gives the camera a destination (forward toward a crystal tower at golden hour) so the whole clip has somewhere to go, and the waterfall and lanterns held up for the full length.

PromptA floating island with a glowing waterfall pouring into the clouds, giant glowing fireflies drifting past lanterns, the camera flies forward toward a crystal tower at golden hour. Ethereal choir and the rush of water.

Sound can be off

Ink in water, with no sound

An abstract macro of blue, magenta and gold ink in water, made with Sound switched off. It needs no soundtrack.

PromptMacro of vivid blue, magenta and gold ink swirling through clear water in slow motion, folding into silk-like ribbons against a black background, dreamlike and smooth.

Length, shape and sound

Length is 5 to 20 whole seconds. A short clip is cheaper and finishes sooner; our 5-second clips took 10 to 34 seconds and the 15 and 20 second ones about 100. Resolution is 720p or 1080p, and the shape can be 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 21:9 or 2:1.

Sound is on by default and is generated together with the picture, so write it into the prompt the way you write the look. Switch it off for a silent clip.

FLUX 3 Max prompt questions

How do I write a good FLUX 3 Max prompt?

Say what is in the picture, what moves, how the camera moves and what it sounds like, in one to three sentences. Name a sound that is easy to hear: our first sneaker run without one came back silent.

How long should a prompt be?

One to three sentences. The model already expands your prompt, so a long list of adjectives adds little. Concrete motions and one clear camera move help more.

Can I copy these prompts?

Yes. Each has a Use this prompt button that loads the exact words, the length, the shape and the frames into the tool. Change a word and run it.

Does the same prompt give the same video?

No. Each run is different, so the same words can give a better or a worse clip. Two of the clips here took a second run with a better prompt.

Do I have to write the sound?

It helps. The sound is generated with the picture and follows what you describe. Without a sound cue you get whatever fits the scene, which can be very quiet.

What does a prompt cost?

Nothing to try; a clip costs 36 credits a second at 720p and 62 at 1080p, so 180 credits for 5 seconds at 720p. New accounts get 180 free credits and a failed video is refunded.

Can I put names of brands or people in a prompt?

Do not ask for real people, celebrities, children or other people's trademarks and characters. The text you type is checked before any video is made, and a request that breaks the Content Policy is refused and costs no credits.
