What image to video does with a photo

Six clips made on this site, each from one or two frames we generated. The words under each clip are exactly what we typed.

One photo, one motion

A cat stretches and yawns in the window light

The photo is a ginger cat sitting on a windowsill. In the clip it lies down, stretches and gives a big yawn, and the fur, the plant and the light through the window stay the way they are in the photo. The prompt names the motion (stretch, yawn, flick the tail) and the sound (purring, a bird outside); that is the pattern that worked for us.

PromptThe ginger cat stretches, opens its mouth in a big yawn and flicks its tail, morning light shifting across its fur. Soft purring and a bird singing outside.

A person in the frame

An astronaut turns toward the window

A woman in an orange flight suit stands in a hangar. She turns her head toward the light and her smile forms; the suit, the hangar and the vehicles behind her stay identical to the first frame. The person in the photo is an AI-generated picture, not a real one. Only use photos of people who have agreed.

PromptThe astronaut slowly turns her head toward the window light, a calm smile forming, dust floating in the beam, the camera drifts in a little. Quiet hangar ambience and a soft echo.

When the motion is small

Lavender in the wind, a windmill and drifting clouds

This one is the weakest of our image clips, and we kept it to show why. A calm landscape photo with a long prompt gave gentle motion only: clouds, swaying lavender and slowly turning blades. If you want more than that, ask for a camera move as well and name the one thing that should change most.

PromptClouds drift across the sky, the lavender sways in the wind in waves, the windmill blades turn slowly, the camera glides forward over the flowers. Wind, bees humming and a distant church bell.

Vertical for short video

Flying cars lift off above a neon street

A 9:16 sci-fi street picture became an 8-second vertical clip: the cars rise and glide, the neon signs flicker, rain ripples in the puddles and the camera climbs. With Ratio on Auto, the clip follows the shape of your photo.

PromptThe flying cars lift off and glide silently above the street, neon signs flicker, rain falls and ripples in the puddles, the camera rises slowly. A low electronic hum, rain and distant sirens.

First and last frame

A peony bud blooms into the second photo

Two photos of the same flower, bud and bloom. The model fills in the time between them: the petals open layer by layer in the dawn light and the clip ends on your second photo.

PromptA time-lapse of the peony bud slowly unfolding into full bloom, petals opening layer by layer in the dawn light, the camera holds still. Gentle ambient music and morning birds.

A skyline from midday to night

A waterfront at noon and the same view at night. Clouds race by, the sun sets over the towers, windows light up one by one and the river turns to mirrored lights, ending on the night photo. It was the best clip of the 24 we made.

PromptTime-lapse from midday to night over the waterfront skyline: clouds race by, the sun sets, the towers light up window by window, the river turns to mirrored lights. A low city hum that turns into night crickets.

Getting a good first frame

Start from a sharp photo of the one thing that should move. A clean subject with room around it gives the camera somewhere to go. Clips tend to keep the look of the photo, so a good photo matters more than a long prompt.

Describe the motion, not the photo. The model already sees the picture; spend the prompt on what changes, in what order, how the camera moves and what it sounds like. Two or three concrete motions beat a list of adjectives: our first try at the café window clip barely moved, and the second, which named the rain on the glass, the steam, the girl turning the page and a passing umbrella, was the one we kept.

Use a last frame when you know where it should end: a bloom, a day turning to night, a door opening. Leave it out when you want the model to decide.

Photos can be JPG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB. They are checked before they are used and deleted about a day after you upload them.

FLUX 3 Max image to video questions

What is FLUX 3 Max image to video?

It is the mode of FLUX 3 Max, a video model from fal Research and Black Forest Labs, that starts from a photo. The photo becomes the first frame and the model animates it from your description, with sound. You can add a second photo as the last frame.

How much does it cost?

180 credits for a 5-second clip at 720p, which is 36 credits a second; 1080p costs 62 credits a second. The price is the same with or without a photo, and it shows next to the button before you start. New accounts get 180 free credits, enough for one 5-second 720p clip. Packs start at $9.90 for 1,000 credits.

How long does it take?

Across the 24 clips we made on 3 November, a 5-second clip took 10 to 34 seconds, 8-second clips 18 to 60 seconds (the slowest was 1080p), 10-second clips 19 to 32 seconds, and the 15 and 20 second clips about 100 seconds each. Times vary with load.

How long can the video be?

From 5 to 20 seconds in whole seconds, in 720p or 1080p. There is no 4K.

Can I choose the last frame?

Yes. Add a second photo in the tray and the video ends on it. Skip it and the model decides how the clip ends.

What shape is the video?

With Ratio on Auto the video follows the shape of your first photo. You can also pick 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 21:9 or 2:1.

Whose photos can I use?

Only photos you have the right to use: your own, or an adult's who has clearly agreed. Photos of children, celebrities and other people who have not agreed are not allowed, and neither is anything illegal or sexual. Photos are checked before they are used, and so is the text you type. See the Content Policy.

Does the video keep my photo's look?

In our examples the subject, the setting and the light stayed the same as the first frame while the motion happened. A longer clip has more time to drift, so check the whole clip.

What happens to my photo and my video?

Your photo is deleted about a day after you upload it. The finished video stays in My videos for 30 days and you can download it at any time.

Is this an official tool from the model's makers?

Flux3Max.io is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Black Forest Labs or fal; FLUX is a trademark of Black Forest Labs, and model names belong to their owners.
